Are your AirPods beeping, hissing or whining slightly? That's annoying. But don't worry: in this article we'll go through the causes and all relevant solutions to the problem. Let's get started straight away:
WHY ARE MY AIRPODS / AIRPODS PRO BEEPING?
Only in the worst case can the beeping be attributed to a hardware defect. In this case, the AirPods would have to be replaced. But the problem is often easier to solve because it can be traced back to other causes. Make sure the AirPods are reasonably charged before attempting the following solution steps:
SOLUTION 1: DISCONNECT AND RE-PAIR AIRPODS
It may be enough to disconnect the AirPods and then re-pair them. You can do this via the Bluetooth settings. From there, tap the name of your AirPods and then tap “Ignore this device.” Once you've done that, reconnect your AirPods. Place the device in the immediate vicinity of your headphones to ensure a stable Bluetooth connection and establish a new connection. Now check whether the beeping or hissing has stopped.
SOLUTION 2: TURN DOWN THE VOLUME
This sounds simple, but too high a volume could be responsible for the beeping or increased noise. Reduce the volume and check whether the problem has been solved.
SOLUTION 3: UPDATE FIRMWARE
Strange noises on AirPods Pro can also be caused by outdated software on the playback device. Therefore, it is advisable to check the firmware version on all devices connected to the headphones.
SOLUTION 4: RULE OUT NOISE CANCELING PROBLEMS
The noise canceling function can cause the AirPods Pro to sound strange, beep slightly or crackle. This occurs, for example, if the microphones that record ambient noise are dirty. To resolve any noise cancellation issues, it is necessary to clean the earbud microphones. Caution is advised as the AirPods are sensitive. Choose a clean, well-lit work environment and only use the cleaning products recommended in our detailed cleaning guide .
SOLUTION 5: RESET AIRPODS TO FACTORY SETTINGS
Is the beeping still there? Then it's time to reset your AirPods to factory settings. This could fix the problem. To reset, follow these steps:
- First turn off Bluetooth on your device
- Place both AirPods in the charging case and leave the lid closed for 30 seconds
- Open the charging case lid, but leave the headphones in the case
- Press the button on the back of the charging case and hold it for about 15 seconds. The LED light should initially flash white and then flash yellow after a few seconds
- Reconnect the AirPods by turning on Bluetooth. If the connection does not occur automatically, tap “Connect” on your device
SOLUTION 6: ACCIDENTALLY TYPED “PLAY SOUND” IN THE FIND MY APP?
The Find My app lets you view AirPods on the map and play a sound to help you find them if they're misplaced. Maybe you activated the app and forgot to turn off the sound.
SOLUTION 7: REQUEST AIRPOD REPLACEMENT
If none of the previous solutions worked, your AirPods (or a single AirPod) are probably defective. In this case, you can check whether you still have a warranty on them. If so, contact Apple to see if there is anything else that can be done. In some cases you will receive a replacement. In other cases, however, there are still repair costs, which can sometimes be so high that buying new AirPods is more worthwhile.
By the way, if only one of your AirPods beeps, you can also purchase individual AirPods in our online shop. The manufacturer only sells AirPods in bundles, which are of course more expensive. That's why we also offer individual AirPods. Our individual AirPods are Apple originals. Because we buy complete AirPod bundles and dismantle them into their individual parts.
