You've lost your AirPods and just can't find them? You're wondering whether you can still find them even though the AirPods may have run out of battery? Finding AirPods with the “Find My” app
As a first step, it's of course a good idea to think about when and where you last saw or used your AirPods. That alone may give you the decisive clue.
If not, you can use Apple's “Find My” feature . It shows you where your AirPods are. Here's how:

Open “Find My” on your iPhone

Under “Devices”, select your AirPods. If your AirPods aren't in the charging case, you may only need to select the left or right AirPod. By the way: with AirPods Pro 2 and newer models, you can also select the charging case.
- Now find your AirPods on the map.

Your AirPods aren't nearby? Then tap “Directions”. This lets you see their location in “Maps”.

Your AirPods are nearby? Then tap “Play Sound” and listen out for your AirPods' beeps.
- Depending on your AirPods and iPhone, you may also be able to select the “Find Nearby” option. If so, tap it and wait until the AirPods connect to your iPhone. Then follow the instructions.
Please note: Sometimes it takes a little while for the iPhone to connect to the AirPods. It can also take a while for the sound to play or for the device to be found nearby.
Can you locate AirPods when they're off / offline?
If the AirPods have run out of battery or are out of range, “No location found” may be displayed. As a rule, you can then see their last known location and get directions to it.
By the way, when the AirPods are offline, you also can't play a sound or use the “Find Nearby” feature.
As soon as the AirPods are back online, you'll get a notification on the iPhone or Apple device you use them with.
When should you mark AirPods as “lost” and what happens when you mark AirPods as lost?
If you couldn't find your AirPods despite all your attempts, you can mark them as lost. In “Find My”, select your AirPods, swipe up a little, choose “Mark As Lost” and tap “Activate”.
Now follow the further instructions on the screen. They let you display your contact information for anyone who might happen to find your AirPods. Here too, tap “Activate”.
What can I do if I've only lost one AirPod?
If you've only lost a single AirPod , we'll be happy to help. Unfortunately, the manufacturer doesn't sell individual replacement parts, such as just a right or just a left AirPod.

Can you locate AirPods when they're not connected?
